A Guide to Your Eye Shape

Your eyes are a prominent feature on your face, and they play a large role in your overall appearance. Much like a variety of other features, eyes come in numerous shapes and sizes. Knowing and understanding the shape of your eye can help you determine what style of makeup or eyelash extensions will look best. While your lash artist will be trained to recognize your eye shape and determine the type of lashes that will give you the best results, it’s also a good idea to know what type of eye you have so that you have a better understanding of what to expect when you go to your appointment. In today’s post, we will help you determine your eye shape by providing you with a brief description of some of the most common shapes.

At Cherry Lash, we want you to love your new lashes. Whether you’re looking to wow the crowd with bold, fierce eyelash extensions, or you’re more interested in enhancing your naturally good looks, our expert lash artists will work with you to make your dream lashes a reality. We offer three base lash extension packages, and from there, we can customize the length, curl, and thickness to deliver the style that you desire. Learn more about our eyelash extensions, and contact Cherry Lash to schedule an appointment at one of our two convenient locations.

Determining Your Eye Shape

When it comes to eyelash extensions, you may think that all extensions are the same. However, individual lashes are strategically placed to give you the appearance that you want, as well as to brighten and enhance the shape of your eye. In a previous post, we discussed some of the popular styles of eyelash extensions. Some of these styles may look better with certain eye shapes than they would with others. Knowing your eye shape will help you to determine which style you would prefer.

Pay Attention to Your Features

If you are trying to determine your eye shape, it’s important that you have a mirror present so that you can look closely at the different parts of your eye. There are a few areas that you will be looking at in order to determine the shape of your eye. These areas include:

Eyelid – Look to see if you have a crease in your eyelid. Depending on your eye shape, you will either have a crease, you won’t have a crease, or you will have a crease but it will be covered by an extra flap of skin.
Whites of your eyes – In order to determine the difference between round and almond-shaped eyes, you will have to see if the whites of your eyes are visible around your iris.
Outer corner – Determine whether or not the outer corner of your eye is straight, flips up, or flips down.
Space between your eyes – Certain eye shapes may be set wider or narrower than others.

Each area will help you narrow down the specific shape of your eye, and you may find that your eyes are unique and fit into multiple categories.

Most Common Eye Shapes

Once you have taken the time to thoroughly examine your eye, the next step is to use those features to determine the shape of your eye.

Monolid

If you look at your eyelid and don’t see a distinctive crease, it indicates that you have a monolid. This eye shape is identified by a flat space between your eye and your eyebrow that has a very little crease if at all.

Hooded Eyelids

On the opposite side of the monolid, we have hooded eyelids. While monolids are distinguished by no crease, those with hooded eyelids have a crease, but it is hidden underneath a flap of skin. You can develop a hooded eyelid over time as your skin starts to lose elasticity, but it is possible to be born with this type of eye shape.

Almond Eyes

Almond eyes are one of the most coveted eye shapes. As the name suggests, the shape of the eye resembles the shape of an almond. When you look at your face, you should see a visible crease, and when you look closely, you won’t see any white on the top or bottom of your irises.

Upturned Eyes

Upturned eyes look very similar to almond eyes with one distinction. At the outer corner of your eye, you will notice that the corners turn upwards slightly. This can be difficult to determine, so one trick you can use is to imagine that there is a straight line across the center of your eye. If the outer corners of your eyes lay straight, then you most likely have almond eyes, but if the outer corners turn upwards above the imaginary line, then you have upturned eyes.

Downturned Eyes

This eye shape is very similar to the two listed above. However, the outer corners of your eyes will turn downwards instead of laying straight or turning upwards. If you’re unsure if you have downturned eyes, you can use the same trick that was used for upturned eyes.

Popular Eyelash Extension Styles

Eyelash extensions are a great cosmetic treatment for those who want to improve their appearance with gorgeous, thick eyelashes. If you have recently decided that lash extensions are for you, the next step is to decide what sort of style you want to achieve. You may think that lash extensions are pretty straightforward. However, different lengths of lash extensions can be applied in such a way to create different looks. In today’s post, we will discuss a few of the most popular types of eyelash extensions and how they appear on different types of eyes.

At Cherry Lash, we want you to love your new lashes, which is why our expert lash artists will work with you to customize your lashes to fit your exact specifications. Whether you want to enhance your natural eyelashes or you want to make a bold statement, we can do it all! To learn more about Cherry Lash, browse our website or contact one of our two convenient locations in Las Vegas and Henderson to schedule your appointment today! In the meantime, continue reading below where we discuss a few popular styles of lash extensions.

Staggered

Most eyelash extension styles involve playing longer or shorter lashes on different parts of the eye to create a certain look. With the staggered style, however, the lash artist will alternate using shorter and longer lashes, giving your lashes a full and thick appearance. If you’re interested in creating voluminous lashes, then this is a great option.

Cat Eye

The cat eye style is one of the styles where the lash artist will use longer lashes in one area and shorter lashes in another. In this case, longer lashes will be placed on the outer corner of your eye, while shorter lashes are used along the rest of the lash line. This style gives your eyes a longer and wider set appearance much like a cat. As a result, cat eye lash extensions are wonderful options for those who have eyes that are closer together or more round in appearance.

Doll Eye

Did you ever envy the look of your doll’s lashes and eyes as a child? With the doll eyelash extensions, you can achieve the wide-eyed innocence you always admired. This style is applied using longer lashes in the middle of the eye with shorter lashes on the inner and outer corners. By applying the longer lashes in the middle, you add length to the widest part of your eye, making your eyes look bigger and brighter.

Natural

Natural lash extensions are one of the most popular styles. If you’re interested in getting eyelash extensions but you’re worried about them looking too fake, then this is the style for you! Your lash artist will examine your natural eyelashes and apply the extensions according to the natural lengths of your lashes, while also placing any longer extensions towards the middle. This will create a more natural look, making your eyes look bigger and brighter without being too flashy.

These are just a few of the most popular styles that are available when you choose to receive eyelash extensions. At Cherry Lash, we offer three base packages, but our lash artists will also work with you to customize the length, thickness, and curl to fit your preference. Contact Cherry Lash in Las Vegas or Henderson to get started today.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Questions You Should Ask Before You Get Lash Extensions

Eyelash extensions are a great way to enhance your natural beauty and add volume to your existing lashes. They can also help you save time on your morning routine! If you’ve recently decided to invest in lash extensions, it’s important that you understand the process and learn everything you can about your lash artist. In today’s post, we will discuss a few questions that you should ask your lash artist before you go into your appointment.

At Cherry Lash, our lash artists go through extensive training that allows them to provide you with gorgeous, thick eyelashes. Whether you’re looking to enhance your natural lashes or you’re interested in red-carpet-ready lashes that will turn heads, we can make it happen. Choose from our three styles and one of our lash artists will work with you to customize the length, thickness, and curl to make your new lashes everything you ever wanted. Browse our website to learn more about lash extensions, and contact Cherry Lash in Las Vegas or Henderson today!

Are you licensed?

This is the first question you should ask your lash artist before you get your lash extensions. Unfortunately, there are many people offering lash extensions without a license. In order to ensure you are getting top-quality eyelash extensions, you want to be sure that you are seeking extensions from a professional. Some places may give you the option to choose the skill level of your lash artist, offering a discount for the less-skilled artists. That being said, it is always important to ask if your lash artist is licensed before they start work on your lashes.

How long have you been applying lash extensions?

Not only is this questions good to know if you’re thinking about getting lash extensions, but it will also help you get to know your lash artist. As we mentioned above, there are some lash salons that give you the option to choose the skill level of your artist. While the highest skill level has most likely been doing lash extensions for longer, there is no harm in asking. The same goes for the lowest skill tier. Having a newer lash artist doesn’t necessarily mean that you won’t receive quality eyelash extensions, especially if your lash artist went through rigorous training. Not to mention, new lash artists could still have a year or two of experience!

How do I make my lash extensions last as long as possible?

In previous blogs, we’ve mentioned that your natural lashes go through a growth cycle where they will naturally fall out and be replaced by new lashes. Because your eyelash extensions are attached to your existing lashes, it is completely normal that they will fall out when your natural lashes do. That being said, there are a few things that you can do to ensure that you get the most out of your eyelash extensions before you need to come in for a filler.

High-quality lashes and adhesive – Be sure that your lash artist is using high-quality lash extensions and adhesive. Using quality materials will help your extensions securely bond with your natural lashes, avoiding any unnecessary loss of your extensions.
Use an oil-free makeup remover – If you choose to wear makeup with your eyelash extensions, make sure that it is all oil-free, as oil will counteract the adhesive and wreak havoc on your lashes. In addition to wearing oil-free makeup, it’s important that you use an oil-free makeup remover. Additionally, be sure to use a cotton swab when removing makeup near your lashes to avoid accidentally pulling any out.

How often do I need to get my lashes filled?

As we mentioned above, your lashes go through a natural growth cycle. Your eyelash extensions typically last between 30 to 60 days with proper care. Within that time, you will come back to the lash salon and have one of our lash artists apply fillers to help you maintain your gorgeous, thick eyelashes. However, the time in between appointments depends on how well you maintain your lashes after they are adhered to your natural lashes.

The Worst Makeup for Your Eyelash Extensions

Getting eyelash extensions is a great way to achieve thick eyelashes without the hassle of spending hours in front of the mirror applying fake lashes and layer after layer of mascara. With eyelash extensions, you wake up with gorgeous lashes every day! In fact, after receiving lash extensions, many women don’t feel the need to apply any makeup. However, there are a few women who are set in their ways and can’t live without a seductive smoky eye. While it is okay to wear makeup with your lash extensions, there are some stipulations, and in today’s post, we will discuss some of the worst makeup for your eyelash extensions.

If you’re looking to enhance your natural lashes, look red-carpet ready every morning, or just save time getting ready in the morning, Cherry Lash has the solution for you! Why You Need to Wear the Right Makeup

Lash extensions can last up to six weeks if they are properly cared for. That being said, an important part of caring for your lash extensions is wearing the right makeup. As we mentioned above, after receiving eyelash extensions, some women don’t feel the need to wear makeup. However, there are other women who feel naked without their favorite cosmetic products.

With lash extensions, you still have the option of wearing makeup, but it’s important that you ensure you are wearing the right kind of makeup. Wearing the wrong makeup can cause your lash extensions to fall out prematurely, meaning you will have to go in sooner to get them filled. Continue reading below for a few examples of makeup to avoid.

Tubing Mascara

One of the most common myths about mascara is that you can’t wear it with your eyelash extensions. The fact of the matter is that you can wear mascara, you just have to be extra cautious about what type you apply to your lashes. You want to avoid wearing waterproof and tubing mascara. Waterproof mascara is pretty self-explanatory, but tubing mascara is a type of mascara that can easily be removed with very little pressure and will easily slip off in the water. If you must wear mascara, be sure that you look closely at the ingredients and buy a mascara that is water-based.

Pencil Eyeliner

Unfortunately, your favorite pencil eyeliner will have to go. Your long eyelash extensions may have a tendency of getting tangled, especially after a long night of tossing and turning. If that is the case, the last thing you want is to create more chaos by running an eyeliner pencil along your lash line. Not to mention, most eyeliner pencils have a sticky residue that is perfect for an all-day gorgeous look, but not so great for your eyelash extensions.

Liquid Eyeliner

Liquid eyeliner could be just as detrimental to your eyelash extensions as your favorite pencil liner. When choosing makeup that is safe for your lash extensions, it’s best to avoid any cosmetic products that use the words “long-lasting” or “waterproof.” While your liquid liner may not explicitly say these words, think about how you would remove your liquid liner. If the removal process requires any sort of rubbing action, it’s best to leave that liner in your makeup bag. Any sort of repeated touching or rubbing on or near your lashes could cause them to fall out, meaning you will have to refill your gorgeous lashes sooner than anticipated.

Oil-Based Makeup Remover

Oil-based makeup remover is probably one of the biggest cosmetic products to avoid using with your eyelash extensions. As we have mentioned in previous posts, the oil in your makeup remover will loosen the adhesive in your lash extensions, making them fall out. That being said, it is important to keep your lashes clean in order to go the maximum amount of time without having to go to the lash salon for a fill. However, it’s important to pay attention to the ingredients used in any makeup remover that you use.

These are just a few of the main cosmetic products that you should avoid using with your eyelash extensions. In a later blog, we will discuss a few products that are perfectly safe for your lash extensions! In the meantime, if you want to take the plunge and get the best lashes of your life, then contact Cherry Lash and schedule an appointment at our lash salon in Las Vegas or Henderson.

How To Prepare For Your Eyelash Extension Appointment: Part Two

Once the day finally arrives for you to get your luscious lash extensions, there are a few things you need to do to ensure that the best results are achieved. In part one of this multi-part series, we discussed a couple important things you need to do before you go in for your lash extension appointment. Shower Before Your Appointment

In our previous blog, we discussed the importance of showing up to your appointment with a clean face and clean eyelashes. In addition to washing your face before your appointment, it’s also a good idea to take a shower before you arrive. The reason we recommend arriving freshly showered is because once you receive your eyelash extensions, you won’t be able to get them wet for the first 24 to 48 hours after application. The adhesive used to attach the extensions to your natural eyelashes needs time to completely bond with the eyelash. Water from your shower, swimming, a sauna, or even crying can cause problems with the adhesive.

Avoid Oil-Based Products

Prior to your appointment, avoid using any oil-based products, including eye creams, mascara, concealers, and any other products you frequently use around your eyes. If you notice that some of your products are oil-based, be sure that they are completely removed prior to your appointment, as oil will not allow the adhesive to bond with your lashes.

Receive Lash Tints and Facials Before Your Appointment

If you are someone who regularly tints their lashes to make them stand out, you will want to have this done approximately 24 to 48 hours before your eyelash extension appointment. The chemicals and compounds found in lash dye can cause problems with the lash adhesive, so if you want the best results, you will want to plan ahead.

The same concept goes for a facial. If you want to get a facial treatment, be sure to schedule the appointment before you get your lash extensions. As we mentioned above, any sort of water or steam will cause damage to your extensions, therefore it’s best to get any facial treatments out of the way before you receive your eyelash extensions. If you can’t schedule your facial until after your lash extension appointment, it’s best to wait at least 48 hours after the application to get a facial.

Do Your Research

Before you even book your appointment, it’s important to do your research. You want to make sure you’re getting the best results with your eyelash extensions. Research the best places to get lash extensions in your area and read reviews. If you have a friend who has recently received eyelash extensions, ask them about where they got theirs done and what they did or didn’t like about procedure.

Once you’ve settled on a location, look at what options they have for lash extensions. Many places offer packages based on what percentage of your natural lashes will receive extensions. From there, places may even offer discounted rates that vary depending on the skill level of the lash artist. It’s important to do your research ahead of time and have an idea of what you want before you book your appointment.

Arrive With a Clean Face and Clean Lashes

When you arrive for your lash extension appointment, you want your face to be as clean as possible. Your lash artist applies the eyelash extensions using an adhesive, therefore, any residual makeup on both your face and your lashes could make it difficult for the adhesive to bond properly. Unlike when you go to the nail salon, if you arrive with your eye makeup still on, your lash artist will not spend a lot of time trying to take it off, which will result in lash extensions that are less than perfection. It’s best to take the time to wash your face and ensure that all of your eye makeup is completely removed.

If you wear waterproof mascara, it’s best that you stop wearing it three days prior to your appointment. The problem with waterproof mascara is that the components will stay on your lashes even after you have removed your makeup.

Waking up with beautiful natural-looking lashes sounds too good to be true. If you’re convinced, be sure to schedule an appointment with Cherry Lash today!

Your Lash Experience is Customizable

One of the benefits of eyelash extensions is that the experience is completely customizable. Some women prefer to have thick, red-carpet-ready lashes, while others simply want to enhance the beauty of their natural lashes. You will work with your lash artist to customize the length, curl, and thickness of your lashes to meet your needs.

You can Wear Makeup With Lash Extensions

Many people believe that when they get lash extensions they forfeit their favorite eyeshadows and liquid liner, however, that is not the case. If you can’t imagine going without your precise cat-eye, eyelash extensions are not out of the question! You can still rock your favorite makeup, but you have to be careful that you remove it with an oil-free makeup remover. It’s also important to ensure that any makeup you choose to wear is not water based, as it can cause damage to your extensions.

That being said, many women feel that makeup is unnecessary with their eyelash extensions. With thick lashes, there is no need for eyeliner or mascara. In fact, most mascaras will cause your lash extensions to become crusty and break.

The Lash Extension Procedure is Relaxing

The idea of getting lash extensions can be daunting, especially if you’re not sold on the idea of someone working so close to your eye. However, most patients find the entire process relaxing. You will go into the appointment, sit or lie down, close your eyes, and let the lash artist do his or her work. While the lash artist is attaching individual lashes to your already existing lashes, all you have to do is sit back with your eyes closed. In fact, most patients end up falling asleep during the procedure!

Choosing The Right Eyeshadow

Your eyes are the most prominent feature on your face, and as such, you want them to make a statement. The best way to do that is to use makeup and eyeshadow to your advantage. That being said, not all shades and colors will look great on everyone, which is why, in today’s post, we will give you a few tips on how to choose the right eyeshadow that will make your eyes pop.

Matching Your Eyeshadow to Your Eye Color

It’s tempting to accentuate your eyes with bold blues and purples, but in some cases, these colors may work against you. In order to create the most appealing and head-turning looks, you need to dress your eyes with colors that will look the best according to your skin tone and eye color.

The best way to figure out which eyeshadow colors will accentuate your eyes is to look at a color wheel. You want to find colors that are complementary to your natural eye color. When you look at a color wheel, look for the colors that are on the opposite side of the wheel and those will be the colors you want to use. That being said, you also want to keep in mind the hues of each color and how they will look on your face.

Blue Eyes

The opposite of blue on the color wheel is orange, though a bright orange color may not be the best choice for your everyday work makeup. If you want to make your eyes pop in an amazing way, you will want to choose a more natural hue of orange, such as bronze or a rich brown with orange undertones. For days where you want a more understated look, lighter tones like a soft pink or peach will also make heads turn.

Brown Eyes

Brown-eyed beauties are the lucky ones. If you take a look at the color wheel, you will notice that brown is absent. This makes it easy for ladies with brown eyes to choose an eyeshadow color because they can wear almost any color! That being said, different colors will have different effects on how your eye color will look. For example, if you wear green eyeshadow, the color of your eyes will look lighter. On the other hand, silver or dark grey colors will make the brown of your eyes really stand out. No matter what color you choose, you can never go wrong with a swoop of black eyeliner to finish the look!

Green and Hazel Eyes

The complementary color of green is red, but as we mentioned above, a dark, bold red may not be the best choice for everyday wear. Instead, you may choose to go with eyeshadows that are in the pink family. You can even get away with bronze colors with red undertones or rusty, mahogany colors.

Hopefully, after reading this blog you have a better idea of what color eyeshadows will make your eyes look their best. If you’re looking for more ways to make your favorite feature really stand out, Cherry Lash can help! Our lash extensions can give you the thick eyelashes you’ve always wanted, and you can wake up every day feeling red-carpet-ready. Get your dream lashes with Cherry Lash – contact us today!

Myths About Eyelash Extensions: Part Two

Are you someone who spends hours in front of the mirror applying layers of mascara in an attempt to make your lashes look long and thick? At Cherry Lash, we can provide you with gorgeous lash extensions, so you can enjoy waking up every morning with long, thick lashes. Our lash artists can help you customize the thickness, length, and curl of your lash extensions to make your dream lashes a reality. Say goodbye to your mascara wand and your fake lashes, and schedule an appointment with Cherry Lash today!

In part one of this multi-part series, we talked about a few of the myths that are commonly associated with eyelash extensions. In today’s post, we will go over a few more myths to hopefully give you a better understanding of the eyelash extension process. Once you’ve finished reading, if you’ve decided that you want to get gorgeous, thick lashes with eyelash extensions, then contact Cherry Lash to schedule an appointment.

Myth #4: You have to take breaks between relashing appointments

With some cosmetic treatments, it’s ideal that you take a break between follow-up appointments in order to give your body a break. However, with eyelash extensions, this is not the case. As we mentioned in our previous blog, your eyelashes go through a natural growth cycle that causes them to fall out every three to four weeks. Because your extensions are adhered to your natural lash, you will need to have new extensions applied as your natural lashes fall out, if you want to maintain your thick, long lashes. With that in mind, you do not need to take breaks between relashing appointments in order to let your natural lashes “breathe.” Your natural lashes will fall out anyway, and having extensions glued to them will not affect their growth cycle.

Myth #5: Eyelash extensions inhibit daily activities

Many people are under the impression that once they get eyelash extensions, they won’t be able to do certain daily activities. For the first two to three days after you get your lash extensions, you will have to be careful about what you do. Because your new lashes are attached with an adhesive, it needs time to dry, therefore you won’t be able to go swimming or wash your face. However, this rule only applies for the first couple of days. Once the adhesive has had time to cure, you will be able to go about your day as usual.

Myth #6: Extensions are one-size-fits-all

If you’ve ever bought false eyelashes from the store, then you know that there are only a few options to choose from. Essentially, you can choose between more natural-looking lashes and lashes that are fit for celebrities on the red carpet. Additionally, fake lashes typically come in one size, meaning you have to trim them down if you want them to fit right.

Eyelash extensions, on the other hand, can be customized to fit your exact specifications. Whether you’re looking for long, thick, lashes, or you’re interested in extensions that look more natural, your lash artist can make it happen. In fact, more often than not, you can choose the length, curl, and thickness that you desire.

Hopefully, you now have a better understanding of what to expect should you decide to get eyelash extensions. At Cherry Lash, we are proud to provide those in Las Vegas and Henderson with the gorgeous lashes that they desire. Our lash artists have the training to provide you with top-of-the-line lash extensions, and they are more than willing to work with you to customize the outcome. If you’re interested in getting beautiful lashes, contact Cherry Lash today!

We look forward to working with you soon.

Myths About Eyelash Extensions: Part One

Eyelash extensions have become increasingly popular, and many people are making the move to get longer, thicker lashes. At Cherry Lash in Las Vegas and Henderson, we are proud to provide you with the gorgeous lashes that you’ve always dreamed of. We offer high-quality eyelash extensions and we will work with you to give you the length, thickness, and curl that you desire. If you’re looking for natural-looking eyelash extensions from experts that you can trust, then look no further than Cherry Lash! Contact us today to schedule an appointment.

Despite the fact that many people are choosing to forego their false eyelashes for eyelash extensions that give you beautiful lashes every day, there are still those who are hesitant to try them. In part one of this multi-part series, we will cover a few of the most common myths associated with eyelash extensions in order to ease your mind and, hopefully, convince you to give them a shot.

Myth #1: Eyelash extensions hurt

If the only thing preventing you from getting lash extensions is that you worry it will hurt, then you’re in luck! Eyelash extensions are painless, as there is no plucking or pulling involved. Eyelash extensions are simply glued to your existing natural lashes, increasing the volume and length. The lash artist will use tweezers to pick up the lash extensions, apply the adhesive, and attach them to your natural lash. The entire process is completely painless, and you may even feel comfortable enough to take a nap!

Myth #2: Your natural eyelashes will be thinner and shorter once you no longer get extensions

Another reason that people may avoid getting lash extensions is because they think that once they stop getting the extensions, their natural lashes won’t be the same. If for some reason you decide that you no longer want eyelash extensions, there is no reason that your natural lashes should be any different than they were before. You may feel that your natural lashes are thinner or shorter than they were before, but that is because you were used to the extensions that gave you thick, long lashes.

Your eyelashes go through a growth cycle and, over time, they do fall out naturally. Because your lash extensions are attached to your natural lashes, they will fall out when your natural lash falls out. With that in mind, this normal growth cycle is not affected by your lash extensions, therefore when you stop getting the extensions, you can expect the same length and thickness that your lashes were before you got lash extensions.

Myth #3: Your eyelashes will fall out

As we mentioned above, your natural lashes go through a growth cycle. Have you ever found a loose eyelash on your cheek and used it to make a wish? The reason you find these eyelashes from time to time is because eyelashes go through a growth cycle, and at the end of it, they fall out.
