Why You Need to Wear the Right Makeup
Lash extensions can last up to six weeks if they are properly cared for. That being said, an important part of caring for your lash extensions is wearing the right makeup. As we mentioned above, after receiving eyelash extensions, some women don’t feel the need to wear makeup. However, there are other women who feel naked without their favorite cosmetic products.
With lash extensions, you still have the option of wearing makeup, but it’s important that you ensure you are wearing the right kind of makeup. Wearing the wrong makeup can cause your lash extensions to fall out prematurely, meaning you will have to go in sooner to get them filled. Continue reading below for a few examples of makeup to avoid.
One of the most common myths about mascara is that you can’t wear it with your eyelash extensions. The fact of the matter is that you can wear mascara, you just have to be extra cautious about what type you apply to your lashes. You want to avoid wearing waterproof and tubing mascara. Waterproof mascara is pretty self-explanatory, but tubing mascara is a type of mascara that can easily be removed with very little pressure and will easily slip off in the water. If you must wear mascara, be sure that you look closely at the ingredients and buy a mascara that is water-based.
Unfortunately, your favorite pencil eyeliner will have to go. Your long eyelash extensions may have a tendency of getting tangled, especially after a long night of tossing and turning. If that is the case, the last thing you want is to create more chaos by running an eyeliner pencil along your lash line. Not to mention, most eyeliner pencils have a sticky residue that is perfect for an all-day gorgeous look, but not so great for your eyelash extensions.
Liquid eyeliner could be just as detrimental to your eyelash extensions as your favorite pencil liner. When choosing makeup that is safe for your lash extensions, it’s best to avoid any cosmetic products that use the words “long-lasting” or “waterproof.” While your liquid liner may not explicitly say these words, think about how you would remove your liquid liner. If the removal process requires any sort of rubbing action, it’s best to leave that liner in your makeup bag. Any sort of repeated touching or rubbing on or near your lashes could cause them to fall out, meaning you will have to refill your gorgeous lashes sooner than anticipated.
Oil-Based Makeup Remover
Oil-based makeup remover is probably one of the biggest cosmetic products to avoid using with your eyelash extensions. As we have mentioned in previous posts, the oil in your makeup remover will loosen the adhesive in your lash extensions, making them fall out. That being said, it is important to keep your lashes clean in order to go the maximum amount of time without having to go to the lash salon for a fill. However, it’s important to pay attention to the ingredients used in any makeup remover that you use.
These are just a few of the main cosmetic products that you should avoid using with your eyelash extensions. In a later blog, we will discuss a few products that are perfectly safe for your lash extensions! In the meantime, if you want to take the plunge and get the best lashes of your life, then contact Cherry Lash and schedule an appointment at our lash salon in Las Vegas or Henderson.
